5160 alloy steel is a high carbon spring steel that has a small amount of chromium added to it in addition to carbon to improve the hardenability of the steel. Although it has excellent wear resistance and other properties, it is known for its excellent toughness. 5160 steel bars are used in the vehicle and tractor industries to manufacture leaf springs with heavy loads and high stresses, and coil springs with larger diameters.
